Employment Opportunities

Blue Sky Meadow Outdoor Science School is always looking for energetic people to join our community.  We occasionally have openings for a Naturalist Instructor, or offer internships (~3 months in length).  Below are brief descriptions of each position.  Contact Kathleen Mitchell at outdoorscienceschool@yahoo.com to see if we have any current openings.

Naturalist Instructor:

Naturalist Instructors are the heart and soul of Blue Sky Meadow.  They lead their own group of 15-20 5th or 6th grade students (with the help of 1-2 volunteer cabin leaders) through the forests and meadows each day, instilling them with a sense of wonder for the natural world.  Naturalist Instructors have the flexibility and responsibility of creating their own, unique week-long outdoor science program for their group, under the guiding hand of the Outdoor School Principal and Lead Naturalist Instructor.  Naturalist Instructors are responsible for leading their group, running 1-2 evening meals per week, and assisting with 2-3 evening programs per week.  Naturalist Instructors work 40 hours / week, which includes 2-3 evenings.  Hours are generally 9 a.m. Monday through 12 noon Friday (long weekends every week!).  The position pays a very competitive salary, and includes health, dental, and vision insurance and free on-site housing.  The position generally runs from late September through early June.

Internship:

Blue Sky Meadow occasionally has an internship opening.  Internships are generally ~3 months long, and usually in the spring.  An internship at Blue Sky Meadow is NOT slave labor, but a very conscientious, guided opportunity for an individual who is interested in outdoor education, but does not yet have the qualifications to be a Naturalist Instructor.  The internship is designed week-by-week to provide the intern with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to become an outdoor education leader.  During the experience, the intern has the chance to work with and observe all of our Naturalist Instructors, to work closely with our Lead Naturalist Instructor, observe and then develop their own lesson plans, and to expand their science knowledge, leadership, and teaching skills.  By the end of the internship, the Intern will lead their own group for a week of Outdoor Science School.  Two of our Naturalist Instructors are previous interns.  The Internship provides free on-site housing and a small stipend.
