Lawrence Hall of Science and the BEETLES Program

Blue Sky Meadow Outdoor Science School is proud to offer a new, innovative outdoor science curriculum which integrates the Next Generation Science Standards. Our Naturalists underwent rigorous professional development in the fall of 2013 in order to integrate new teaching techniques and lessons (which focus on the new standards) into their program. Working together with the Lawrence Hall of Science at the University of California Berkeley, we are one of first outdoor schools to introduce the BEETLES (Better Environmental Education, Teaching, Learning, Expertise, and Sharing) program. Our outdoor science school experience emphasizes the development of critical thinking, questioning, and observational skills, as well as building confidence and encouraging collaboration. BEETLES is a cutting edge, state-of-the-science program in the world of elementary environmental education. It is based on the most current research on effective teaching and learning styles and techniques, and was designed specifically to address the NGSS in the most effective way. Blue Sky Meadow is one of the first Outdoor Science Schools in the state to offer this program, and we are proud to offer a curriculum designed to give your students the very best possible experience in the outdoors. Our goal is to empower our students and provide them with the tools to successfully explore their world, not just today, but for a lifetime. Our Naturalists are excited to share this program with you and your students - so come on up and check it out!
